What is a GeoJSON file?
GeoJSON (RFC 7946) is the JSON format for geographic features and the default for web mapping libraries like Leaflet, Mapbox GL and OpenLayers. A file holds a FeatureCollection, and each feature pairs a geometry with a properties object.
This viewer is a quick way to check a GeoJSON before you ship it: that the coordinates land where you expect, that geometries look right, and that the properties are what you think they are.
- Accepts FeatureCollections, single Features and bare geometries.
- Coordinates must be longitude, latitude (WGS 84), as RFC 7946 requires. If your points appear swapped or off the coast of Africa, the order is reversed.
GeoJSON viewer — FAQ
- How do I view a GeoJSON file on a map?
- Drop it into the viewer above. It's drawn on an interactive map in your browser, and each feature's properties are shown in a table.
- Why are my GeoJSON points in the wrong place?
- GeoJSON coordinates are [longitude, latitude]. If they were written as [latitude, longitude], points land in the wrong place — often in the ocean near 0°, 0°.
- Does the viewer upload my file?
- No. Parsing and drawing happen locally in your browser.
- Can I convert GeoJSON to other formats?
- Yes — after opening it, use the links below the map to convert to KML, KMZ, Shapefile, GPX, CSV, Excel or TopoJSON.
