Tips for fair sales territories
Balance by workload, not by area
Big territories aren't necessarily busy ones. Upload your accounts and compare the counts per territory before you hand them out.
Follow real boundaries
Reps think in highways, rivers and city limits. Trace those instead of straight lines so nobody argues over a street.
Leave no gaps
Check the "outside every territory" count after uploading. Every account that falls outside is one nobody owns.
Revisit every quarter
Customers move and pipelines shift. A territory map that's never updated becomes a source of disputes.

Territory map maker: FAQ
- How do I make a territory map?
- Open the territory map maker above, zoom to your area, click Draw a territory, and click the map to place the corners of each territory. Click the first corner to finish. Then name and color each territory and export it as KML, GeoJSON or Shapefile.
- Can I see which customers are in each territory?
- Yes. Upload your customers as a CSV or Excel file with latitude and longitude columns (or a KML, KMZ or GeoJSON file). Each territory shows how many customers fall inside it, and you can download the list with a territory column added. The file never leaves your browser.
- Can I use my territories in Google Earth or Google My Maps?
- Yes. Export them as KML or KMZ and open the file in Google Earth, or import it into Google My Maps. Shapefile and GeoJSON work in GIS tools like ArcGIS and QGIS.
- Can I edit territories I made somewhere else?
- Yes. Upload a KML, KMZ or GeoJSON file that contains polygons and they're loaded as territories you can rename, recolor, count customers in and export again.
- My customer list only has addresses. What should I do?
- Get coordinates for the addresses first with the free batch geocoder, then upload the result. Or import the list into GeoMaps, which geocodes it automatically and keeps the territories next to your live CRM or spreadsheet data.
- Is the territory map maker free?
- Yes, free with no signup and no limits on use. Everything runs in your browser.
