Auto-create and balance territories

Build balanced territories from ZIP codes or counties, and keep them even.

Tutorial: Build territories

Let GeoMaps split your records into territories with about the same amount of work in each, then keep an eye on how even they stay.

Auto-create territories

Open the Layers panel, click the ⚡ button and choose Auto-create territories (an empty Layers panel offers it too).

  • Pick the list of records, how many territories you need (2 to 30) and what to build them from: US ZIP codes or US counties.
  • Choose what to balance by: the number of records, or the total of a number field such as revenue.
  • Click Preview to see each territory's total and its % of the average, then Create territories.

Territories are made of whole ZIP codes or counties, kept in one connected piece where the area allows, and saved as ordinary layers in a new folder, so you can rename, recolor and edit them.

Balance territories

Click ⚡ → Balance territories, or open a folder's ⋮ menu and choose Balance. Pick the folder, a list and what to balance by, then Show balance. Each territory's row in the Layers panel now shows its total and % of the average, and updates as your data changes.

Even out

For territories built from ZIP codes or counties, Even out moves border areas between neighbouring territories until they're even. You see each territory's figures now and after, and nothing changes until you click Save new boundaries. To stop showing totals, open Balance for that folder and choose Turn off balance.

Auto-create works with US ZIP codes and counties.
