ArcGIS and WMS layers
Bring public ArcGIS data and live map imagery onto your map.

Add outside map data to GeoMaps without downloading files: copy shapes and their data from a public ArcGIS layer, or show live map imagery from a WMS or tile server.
ArcGIS layer (URL)
In the Layers panel, click New layer and choose the layer type ArcGIS layer (URL). Paste one of:
- a FeatureServer or MapServer layer URL,
- a service URL (GeoMaps lists its layers so you can pick one),
- an ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise item page, or an ArcGIS Hub dataset link.
Click Load, then Save. The shapes and their attributes are copied into a normal GeoMaps layer: click a shape to see its fields, use it in the Layer assigned filter, share it and edit it. Reload it from its saved URL any time for the latest data. Public layers only, up to 20,000 features or 10 MB per layer.
Map overlay (WMS / tiles)
Choose the layer type Map overlay (WMS / tiles) and paste a WMS server address (pick one of its layers), a tile URL with {z}/{x}/{y} (WMTS templates work too) or an ArcGIS MapServer / ImageServer. Click Check, set the opacity, then Save. The imagery sits on top of the base map and under your pins, and stays on when you switch base map.
An overlay is a live picture of another map, so you can't click it for details or filter by it. Use an ArcGIS layer when you need the shapes and their data. Overlays show in the web app.
